Lifelong learning: School’s in … forever - Margaret Shkimba, the Spec

Continuing education, professional development, skills enhancement … call it what you want, we all have to keep learning in order to keep growing — as employees, as people, as parents, etc. Many companies offer to reimburse staff for courses taken related to their work; they get a tax break, too. The government acknowledges the importance of education by providing educational tax credits that serve to recognize and reward the contributions of students towards growing the future of the Canadian economy. There could be more support — courses are expensive for the minimum-wage worker who needs them. This should be an election issue. In this world of constantly changing technology, increasing levels of workplace stress and growing attention to personal job satisfaction, the importance of lifelong learning cannot be underestimated.
