Two small private institutions celebrated their final commencement ceremonies following announcements of their impending closures. The news comes on the heels of reports finding that college closings are expected to uptick over the next five years due to the demographic cliff.
Limestone University (S.C.)
Limestone University’s governing board announced on April 29 that it had failed to raise enough money to keep its doors open and would be closing at the end of spring 2025.
St. Andrews University (N.C.)
St. Andrews University President and Provost Tarun Malik wrote the campus community on April 25 that the college would be closing at the end of the spring semester. “[W]e have reached a point where financial sustainability is no longer attainable.”
