Since the Coronavirus pandemic moved classes online in early 2020, data shows that fully online student credit hours increased by over 19% in the 2021-2022 school year. Post Coronavirus, from the 2021-2022 school year, this trend has continued by an increase by nearly 2% for the 2022-2023 school year, according to data from the UCF communications office. Thomas Cavanaugh, vice provost for Digital Learning, oversees UCF distance learning strategies and policies. “Students typically enroll in a mixture of modalities,” Cavanaugh said in an email. "However, over the past several years the number of student credit hours in digital modalities has increased while face-to-face student credit hours have decreased slightly.”
