Grand Canyon University Stuck With for-Profit Status - Paul Fain, Inside Higher Ed
Grand Canyon U's leaders criticize decision by its accreditor to block the company's attempt to go nonprofit, raising questions about the broad use of outsourcing in higher education. Grand Canyon had proposed to create a new nonprofit “school corporation” and to house various functions of the company in a separate, unaccredited and for-profit “services corporation.” That structure is similar to those of smaller for-profits that previously have made the switch to nonprofit. The commission, however, decided that the proposed structure would move too much of Grand Canyon’s academic operations to the for-profit division.
