Growing numbers of people are looking for alternatives to the traditional college experience. Online education offers tremendous opportunities. But we cannot mislead students into thinking that getting a college education is as easy as downloading a song from iTunes. This is an exciting time in higher education. None of us can predict the changes we will see, and the decisions we make now will need to be revisited—probably sooner rather than later. But the basic function of higher education will not change.
