Overhaul in online class strategy has UGA falling behind peer universities - Jacob Demmitt, Red&Black

Now, as the Independent and Distance Learning program prepares to shut its doors for good, it’s unclear how many of these online courses will be around come fall 2013. Administrators say the IDL program is closing as part of an overhaul of the University's online strategy. When it revamps its Internet offerings this summer, online classes will be more like face-to-face courses than they were under the IDL program. They will be offered by each college — instead of the University of Georgia Center for Continuing Education — and will be semester-based — instead of self-paced. Registration for the old model closed in September, but new online classes won't be available until summer. http://www.redandblack.com/news/overhaul-in-online-class-strategy-has-uga-falling-behind-peer/article_5c7567dc-1ea6-11e2-a656-001a4bcf6878.html
