UW System to offer new 'flexible degree' program - MATTHEW DeFOUR, Wisconsin State Journal

Starting this fall, the UW System plans to offer a "flexible degree" that will allow students to begin classes any time they want, work at their own pace and earn credit for what they already know. The goal is to make it cheaper and easier to earn a degree, particularly for the roughly 700,000 Wisconsin adults who have some college credits and want to advance in their career, but don't want to take classes on a physical campus. Wisconsin would be the first public university to offer a statewide system built around student mastery of material, regardless of how long it takes, said Terry Hartle, a senior vice president for the American Council on Education in Washington, D.C.
