Higher education: Turf politics must be removed when commission looks at reforms - Patriot-News Editorial Board
He has their attention. Now, how will they respond? When Gov. Tom Corbett proposed a 30 percent cut in state aid to state-related universities, including Penn State and Temple, along with a 20 percent cut in aid to the State System universities, the howls were predictable. After all, it would mean that aid to Penn State is cut by half in two years, while the State System schools see a 40 percent drop. That’s draconian. It’s leadership by creating a crisis. It’s a terrible way to approach the problem of skyrocketing costs for higher education.
