Four years after Missouri State University disbanded its College of Continuing Education, the growth in nontraditional programs has been lackluster and the number of evening classes has dropped. The university hopes reversing that decision will bring new attention to those programs -- now more important than ever to the school's enrollment. "I am not ready to say it was a mistake, but considering we are bringing it back, the experiment has not worked as well as we had hoped for," Interim President Clif Smart said. The experiment might have cost the university potential students and their tuition dollars at a time when the market for nontraditional students is growing.
