State-owned universities spend millions in race to snare students - Debra Erdley, Trib Live

Pennsylvania's 14 state-owned universities spend millions of dollars in the race to fill desks and dorm rooms as private and public universities compete for a shrinking pool of high school graduates. The tab for marketing, advertising and recruiting students ranged from $4.1 million at California University of Pennsylvania to $533,999 at Slippery Rock in the 2014-15 school year, according to records obtained by the Tribune-Review. Such spending increased at four out of five Western Pennsylvania schools, even as the cash-strapped universities struggled to eliminate budget deficits. http://triblive.com/news/education/8421928-74/percent-state-universities#axzz3fJph7fbx
