Roughly 625,000 students are now enrolled in community college online classes throughout California. Only about 60 percent of them successfully complete the classes, with completion rates for black and Latino students even lower, according to a report by the Public Policy Institute of California, a nonpartisan think tank based in San Francisco. “Most students do successfully complete online courses, but it’s still a pretty high failure rate,” said Hans Johnson, PPIC senior fellow and co-author of the report.
